Going Back to Old Games
9/30/2008 09:46:00 午前

I realize I haven't posted in a while. I keep thinking I would, like at the workplace or at home during the weekends, but I keep forgetting when I actually get to my PC. That or I become lazy. But here it is now.

A couple weeks ago I finally got the installer of Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six: Vegas 2 back. It's still as awesome as I remember it. But I got too used to the arcade mechanics of CoD4. So it took me a good hour or so to try to get the hang of it again.

Anyway I finally got all the weapons unlocked and I'm really enjoying just wiping out terrorists in Terrorist Hunt. It's just enjoyable. And some of the Terrorist Hunt maps are really challenging. And you can't exactly design a "perfect plan" for any map, cuz they always have the terrorists in different places each time. :D

Also this week we got Heroes of Might and Magic III: Complete. Another awesome game that we loved for years and years, and still do. One of the best non-real-time strategy game ever made. I'll make and playtest maps and post them here just for fun.

Also I'm thinking of getting Day of Defeat: Source but the CDs are surprisingly expensive here in the Philippines. It's supposed to be at around US$10.00 overseas, but here it's more like US$60 or so. Possibly because of the shipping/import costs. I dunno. I'll try to find a cheaper one. DoD was one of our favorite games ever.

Large Hadron Collider

D: They activate this thing in only a few hours. The particle collision is expected on October 21st. I first heard of this months ago, when Raki Brown told me about it, several months ago.

I'll say is...

WHAT HAS SCIENCE DONE?!

Altec Lansing Desktop Speakers
9/01/2008 09:45:00 午後

Yes, I'm taking a break from posting geopolitical stuff. For a while anyway. But I really have to post about this. I bought a set of Altec Lansing speakers for my PC yesterday. It was a little pricey in comparison to the other brands, as expected, but when I heard it (especially at home) I knew for sure it was worth it.

The sound is so awesome. Listening to my music, even low quality MP3s (like those ripped from FLV files) suddenly sound better. And the stuff that actually does sound good, sounds MUCH better. But I expected that kind of sound quality already. I first heard of Altec Lansing when I went to a Netopia once. All their machines were fitted with Altec Lansing headsets. And I have to say it was an audible treat. We played a LAN game there and even though the game wasn't that much on sound effects (it was just Counter Strike), it still left me with a lingering sensation of pleasure in my ears. And that's saying much from a musician like myself.

My sister bought some Altec Lansing speakers of her own maybe more than a year ago. I had the opportunity to try them sometimes, and the sound difference is just astonishing. So I said even if it took me a while to save up for a set of my own, I'll definitely get Altec Lansing instead.

I was actually thinking of getting one with a subwoofer, or even the very lofty 5.1 surround speaker system. But that's just a bit away from my budget right now. Perhaps in the future. :D
