I just got through watching V for Vendetta on VCD, and it's undoubtedly one of the coolest movies ever. I can't even talk about it because it was so cool.
Then it got me thinking about how we always love hearing about stories, true or not, of heroes. Be it the amazing feats of a super-hero like Batman, Superman, or even V, or the heroic action of the local fireman. The reason is we know we're in trouble. We want someone to right the wrongs, to fix the errors in our twisted society, or our government, or whatever else have you. We want somebody to save us. And so writers, carried by these strong emotions of wanting, begin creating romantic stories of how some man, often extraordinary in ways, can protect us. And we, the public, buy the stories, in our own desire to be rescued.
What we forget though, is that a true story of such a beautiful, heroic act, has already been written. I'm convinced it is the most beautiful and perfect "super-hero" story that can ever be told. The world was corrupted, and was headed to absolute destruction because of its evil ways. A hero was sent to us, to right wrongs, and ultimately to die for us, and thus, save us from this destruction. This hero's name is Jesus.
